Seminar: Vision Apprentices

Date: 29 October, 2015

Apprenticeships are one of the best ways for young people to train with industry and at the same time take on a college course. The government has set aside substantial funding to incentivise businesses to take on apprentices. The purpose of this seminar is to provide you with details of how apprenticeships work, opportunities within East Midlands, and a range of services various organisations such as Vision Apprentices can provide you to start an apprenticeship. In order to start an apprenticeship, a number of vacancies are available within East Midlands to apply for. This seminar will highlight the various online search options for you to find vacancies and how best to prepare your application to maximise your chances of having a successful outcome. There will be an opprtunity for informal discussion with the speaker after the event.

Training Session: Protecting New Ideas and Intellectual Property

Date: 10 Dec, 2015

Fee: Attendance is £10. Concessions available.

The ability to protect new ideas for starting your own business or developing a product is quite important. This training session will involve experts from academia and legal profession who will discuss how best to develop, write and protect your ideas. A short tutorial will also be provided to show how patented ideas can be searched, and how to apply for trademark and patents.

Seminar on how to prepare for interviews

Date: 11 April, 2016

Venue: 2 Cygnus Court, Pegasus Business Park, EMA

This event is free of cost. Any donations to the charity are welcome.

Interviews require a carefully study of the employer profile and tailoring of your CV and presentations to meet them. The interview if the most important first meeting which can decide on whether you get your placement or job, or not. This seminar will highlight a principled approach to preparing for interviews including both technical and non-technical elements.

Submit all short essays (max 2000 words) by the stated deadline to secretary.wal@gmail.com

This event has an entry fee of £2. Any donations to the charity are welcome.

Technical essays provide an excellent opportunity for anyone to express their ideas. Your essay on the given topic must not exceed 2000 words. Each essay will be read and scored by a leading academic with expertise in the essay topic. A certificate will be issued to the best essay along with a £20 gift card for buying books with Amazon store.

Career Coaching

First week of each month

Appoinments are available for anyone to book a 60 minute career coaching session with our expert consultant who will review your CV and guide you through a range of future study and job options. An appointment can be booked by emailing secretary.wal@gmail.com

There is a fee of £5 for this service. Any additional donations to the charity are welcome.

A course on basic statistics and data analysis

Date: 20 July, 2016

Venue: Loughborough College

This event is free of cost and there are limited number of seats. Any donations to the charity are welcome. It is important to register in advance for this course by emailing secretary.wal@gmail.com. On registration, information on venue and time will be sent.

The knowledge of basic statistics is important for any form of training and education in science and engineering. This day long course will review the basic of statistics including data distributions, dealing with numeric and categorical data, probability, a variety of charts, hypothesis testing, and how to make sense of large data. Industrial applications of statistics will be discussed showing practical examples and case studies.
